Meet John – John Callahan, CET

My name is John Callahan,

and this is a story about the area I love.

I have lived here all my life on the North East Avalon, consisting of : Bauline; Flatrock; Torbay; Pouch Cove; right into Logy Bay/Middle Cove/Outer Cove and Portugal Cove/St. Phillips. It’s funny how well you get to know an area: all the streets, the hideaways, the people.

It’s been pretty special serving the communities I grew up in, I live in, I raised my family in. Finding the right people for the right places builds our community in so many ways.

My family lives in Flatrock, where I have been serving with the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. I’ve played in and sponsored the Torbay Men’s Slow Pitch League. I’ve also encouraged my neighbours to keep active in so many ways: coaching and sponsoring the Killick Coast Regional Games for youth, sponsoring rowers in the Royal St. John’s Regatta, and supporting fellow runners at local events, as well as raising donations for our local food bank. Being a part of and supporting my community makes me feel good and let’s me spend time with the people around me. That’s what it’s all about.

The Running

Realtor.

Now, this one makes me chuckle a bit. You might see me running around Flatrock, Torbay, and beyond! Yes, I’m running around as in ‘working hard for my clients’ but I’m also a distance runner! I run to challenge myself to go further. Cue the jokes about going ‘the extra mile’ for my clients and neighbours – I don’t mind because I do! I approach each home purchase or sale like I approach a marathon: with you every step of the way until we cross the finish line! And then maybe a little victory lap.

Have we Met?

Just as life in the community I love continues to evolve, so has my career. I have built my knowledge of home-building and housing from the ground up – every job I’ve ever had has been home-related.

First, as a Certified Electrical Engineering Technologist, working as a Project Manager for K&P Contracting. Later, as a realtor with Sutton Group in the Northeast Avalon while I began my own business, BNJ Home Builders.

Today, my real estate career with Hanlon Realty continues to help me develop new neighbourhoods and find the right homes for the right folks.
